Perched on the coastline of Guernsey, Shuruuq is a striking contemporary residence that pairs bold design with exceptional craftsmanship. Designed by the Lovell Ozanne Partnership and winner of the Guernsey Design Awards, the project demanded structural ingenuity and meticulous detailing — a challenge perfectly suited to Eco Space’s specialist timber engineering capabilities.
Shuruuq’s design stands out for its confident use of light, form, and modern structural elements. The award-winning concept required a timber frame that could support wide spans, large openings, and a complex arrangement of internal and external junctions.
Perhaps the most challenging aspect of the Shuruuq project was the extensive use of glazed corners, open-plan living spaces, and long, uninterrupted sightlines. These features required a careful combination of structural timber, engineered components, and concealed load-bearing elements to maintain rigidity without compromising the visual openness of the home.
On site, Eco Space’s carpentry team delivered exceptionally high-tolerance installation works, coordinating with glazing contractors and follow-on trades to achieve the sleek, minimal detailing the design required. Every connection, junction, and fixing point had to be engineered with exacting accuracy to ensure the final finish was as clean as the architectural drawings envisioned.
Eco Space collaborated closely with the architects, translating the ambitious vision into a buildable, precision-engineered structural system that maintained every element of the original design intent. The result is a home that balances contemporary aesthetics with long-term durability and performance.
From the project’s earliest stages, Eco Space focused on creating a robust structure that could support the architectural ambition without unnecessary bulk or visual obstruction. This involved:
The resulting superstructure provided the perfect platform for the high-end finishes and award-winning exterior envelope that make Shuruuq stand out today.
Shuruuq is a showcase of what can be achieved when architectural boldness meets technical precision. The home’s seamless glazing, expansive living spaces, and elegant detailing reflect both the vision of the Lovell Ozanne Partnership and the engineering expertise of Eco Space.
As a Guernsey Design Awards winner, the project highlights the growing role of modern timber systems in delivering homes that are as beautiful as they are structurally sophisticated — and demonstrates Eco Space’s capability to deliver standout residential builds across the Channel Islands.
